ECHO LEAGUE MATCH
Last seasons winners of the league below visited Aveley for the first time and a very good match was played out by the two teams.
Parsonage started strong and went close in the first couple of minutes as James Tevenan’s powerful shot was somehow magnificently saved by the Ascot keeper. The break through came a couple of minutes later following a 3 man move, which resulted in the ball going wide to Tevenan, who’s pinpoint cross was headed home from two yards out by Oliver Bessex. Nicely worked goal! The goal spurred Ascot into life as they now began to get forward, but as usual the Parsonage defence was looking strong and were snuffing out any threat from visitors.
The 2nd half started like the first, with Parsonage having a few shots wide and saved by the Ascot keeper. However Ascot began to dig deep and for the final 15 minutes had Parsonage on the back foot. The Parsonage midfield were 2nd best as Ascot went searching for the equaliser, now playing two up front. Only the usual superb defensive play by Ragon and Grigg prevented Ascot from getting the equaliser. With 2 minutes to go and with Ascot pushing forward at every opportunity, they were caught out at the back by the pace of Jack Lawrence who hit a trademark goal after out pacing Ascot down the right and hitting an unstoppable shot into the corner of the net.
Straight from the restart Ascot can their best opportunity of the match as the boy with the dreadlocks (had been a constant threat all game), went on an amazing run, but his final shot just lacked the power to beat “The Con Man” in the parsonage goal. Finished 2.0
Ascot gave Parsonage a good game today, especially in the 2nd half and were a bit unfortunate to loose by the two goal margin. Parsonage’s performance could have been better and a more powerful and disciplined performance in midfield is required if we are to compete for honours this season.
Overall a good game, sportingly played by the children, well supported by both sets of parents and well refereed.
Good luck to Keith and Ascot for the rest of the season.
