SUMMER LEAGUE

PARSONAGE COLTS 10 – 0 AMEC B

05/07/07

The game began and it soon became clear that Parsonage were going to dominate this game. It was a day when every boy owned his position and every boy wanted to score a goal! It wasn't long before Parsonage's strength took hold and a good pass from Ditkevicius led to the opener from Edobor. Edobor was definitely in the mood and brought a fine save from the Amec keeper, when one on one with him. The rain fell and Yexley used it to his advantage, to float in a beautiful corner, that  the Amec defence could only scramble at. The ball flicked up and a Mallett guided header made it 2 - 0.

The on form Edobor, took a very good through ball from Ayres in defence, to skilfully take the keeper on to his right, shot across goal and watched the ball settle in the net, to make it his second and Parsonage's third. Heinrich-Amenu too, got in on the act for Parsonage's fourth and finished another scramble on the six yard box, that took several attempts at goal by the Parsonage attack and defended valiantly by the Amec back four. Edobor continued to pressure the Amec defence, who looked stumped at how to control him. Again he found Yexley in the penalty box and after several near misses previously, Yexley made no mistake this time and poached the fifth goal of the game.

Clark hungry for a goal, tried his luck from long range, which brought an excellent save from the Amec keeper to thwart his effort. Several more chances fell Parsonage's way, to no avail. Mallett had a header go narrowly wide after more good work from Yexley, sending in a pin point cross. Another fine pass from Ayres to Yexley resulted in Yexley's cross this time landing to Edobor, only to be defended well by Amec. Half time came, with Parsonage 5 - 0 up but the Amec team still did not look disheartened.

The second half saw a very changed Parsonage team. Keeper Chafer became striker Chafer, midfielder Mallett became keeper Mallett and Grigg and Benmore left their defensive roles to run the centre of midfield! It took a while for Parsonage to settle into their new positions and so Amec seized their chance to take advantage. Amec attacked for really the first time in the match and put the new defensive line up of Ditkevicius, Clark, Okoh and Shayle under pressure. The defence sorted themselves out and the rest of the team followed suit. It took a while for the new midfield to gell and Benmore took the initiative with some fine work from Pickett to have a shot saved by the Amec keeper. Again Pickett was instrumental in good running on the left and an even better cross saw Chafer put narrowly wide. The defence combined with the midfield and attack for the next attempt, Clark began the move, interchanging with Heinrich-Amenu, resulting in Benmore again narrowly missing with his attempt on goal. Amec again tried their luck and their striker went one on one with Mallett, only for Mallett to make an outstanding save at his feet. Finally the break through came after good running from Chafer down the centre of the pitch, he rounded the advancing keeper only for Heinrich-Amenu to steal in at the last minute and make it 6 - 0.

Chafer's time came, when Shayle had a fine pass to Heinrich-Amenu, who this time returned the favour by passing to Chafer who scored to make it 7 - 0. Grigg split the Amec defence with a pass to Chafer, who raced into the penalty area, only to be brought down by the keeper. Grigg shaped up to take the spot kick but placed his shot wide. However, Grigg redeemed himself soon after, as Chafer controlled the goal kick and crossed for Grigg to smash into the net, 8 - 0. Chafer had another fine shot hit the post, only for the impressive Pickett to charge onto and score from the rebound. Saunders thought it was his turn to shine and again controlled the goal kick out, only to cheekily chip the Amec keeper and sign off the Parsonage rout to 10 - 0.

The Parsonage team were too strong an outfit for the Amec boys but Amec never let their heads drop throughout the match and continued to battle bravely with grit and determination for every ball. They were a credit to their manager and never faulted each other despite their loss. Thank you Amec for a good spirited match.
