PARSONAGE COLTS 2 WESTWARD BOYS 1
14-01-2007
ECHO LEAGUE MATCH
Parsonage were forced into changes from the start as both defenders one injured and one on holiday were missing. Callum O’Sullivan was put in a right back and Matthew Meehan in at left back.
Parsonage flew out of the blocks and Westwood had to clear one off the line in the opening 30 seconds. Parsonage were putting enormous pressure on the Westwood defence, with James Tevenan, scuffing a shot from 2 yards out and another effort cleared off the line. Westwood settled down and began to compete and looked dangerous when going forward. Just at Westwood started to put pressure on the Parsonage backline Parsonage made the break through. I quick goal kick from Conner Kain, saw the long ball bounce over Westwood’s last man and Jack Lawrence raced onto the loose ball and calmly finished. As usual once in front Parsonage seemed to sit back and Westwood almost equalised hitting the outside of a post. Westwood got their equaliser shortly after following woeful defending by Parsonage, who had the chance to clear the ball no less than 4 times but each time tamely, kicked the ball back to Westwood, who eventually found a hole to score in. Halftime. 1.1
The second half was tight and quiet even. Parsonage were getting frustrated and were giving away silly fouls which allowed Westwood to send long balls deep into the Parsonage half, thus giving Westwood the chance to fight for the ball on the edge of the Parsonage penalty area and keeping Parsonage away from the Westwood goal.
Parsonage got the winner with approx 8 minutes left. Ross Cope won the ball in the centre circle and cleverly fed Jack Lawrence on his right. Lawrence flew down the wing and hit a low cross onto the foot of Cope who and had continued his run and tapped home from close range (see what happens when you pass boys!). Finished 2.1
This was not vintage Parsonage today by a long shot. It didn’t help with both defenders out and James Tevenan picking up an injury after 12 minutes that saw him take no further part in the match. Ross Cope missed a large part of the match due to an injury as well and at one stage we had to let Ryan Grigg come on and play up front even though he could only walk. Not the best of performances again but another 3 points gained, so target achieved.
Well done to Westwood who really made a match of it and are a nice bunch of kids. Thanks Ade for your comments regarding our teams achievements over the last three seasons, then meant a lot. Good luck Westwood for the rest of the season and I hope you play like you did today, for the rest for the remainder of the term, as you could very well get the points you so desperately need.
Parsonage: Kain, Grigg, Bessex, Tevenan, Clark, Meehan, Lawrence, Cope, O`Sullivan
