PARSONAGE COLTS 1 COBRA 1
17-12-2006
LEAGUE MATCH
It was the last game before the Christmas break, and a win would have kept Parsonage 2 points clear at the top of the table.
Come in Cobra a strong physically fit team and our bogey team it seems if we ever had one as we seem to draw many games with them and they also knocked us out of the Echo Cup this year. Praise to the manager Paul who has kept them well up to scratch.
Parsonage created the first chances when Jack Clark twice came close in the first five minutes as both sides looked to settle any early nerves. However, this was a busy scrappy half where most of the play was in the midfield and any chances from both sides came from free kicks and other set pieces.
Parsonage took the advantage after 10 minutes and were the first to score, with a ball through the middle from Meehan to Bessex to Clark who ran passed 3 Cobra defenders and slotted home.
Half Time Score 1-0
Cobra started the second-half positively and almost equalised from a corner after just two minutes. Parsonage were on the back foot and it wasn’t long before the home side were dealt the blow which drew the scores level. The visitors capitalised on some poor defending down the left hand side and a cross flew across the penalty area to be stabbed home by a awaiting Cobra player, which flew into the Parsonage goal like a rocket and gave the goalkeeper absolutely no chance whatsoever.
After Cobra had levelled the scoring, things got a bit like the conclusion of the first half, with chances only coming, from free kicks and other set pieces and other chances were few and far between.
Full Time Result 1-1
Today’s result sees us knocked off the top of the table (only on goal difference) for the first time this season but clear of anyone else by a margin of 8 points, Our performance today wasn’t good. We lacked discipline and never passed. The reason this team has been so successful is that we pass the ball around, creating opening which lead to goals. When this team decides not to play football like they should, we are no better than anyone else, which was evident today.
It will be a very interesting outcome to the season as the teams in this league, are all tough cookies and results get more and more intriguing from week to week.
Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
