Buckhurst Hill 2 v 0 Parsonage Colts
Echo League: Essex
Played Sun 5 Mar 2006
Hill playing in their last league game of the season knew they must record a win today to set Parsonage a target of 10 points out of their remaining 4 games and how it showed.
Right from the off Hill came at Parsonage with a mission and there determination and hunger paid off as they scored twice in the first 5 minutes, before Parsonage had woke up. Parsonage tried to steady but Hill still wanted it more and were winning all the 50/50’s as Parsonage basically stood off and watched. No more goal mouth action in the half 2.0 to Hill.
After a stern half time talk Parsonage competed for the ball with much more determination in the 2nd half and had Callum O’Sullivan not blazed wide when nicely placed in the opening minutes, things may have been different. Ross Cope should also have also done better with two efforts that were off target when nicely placed and a Jack Lawrence effort was going wide when saved by the Hill keeper. As Parsonage pushed forward Hill also had their chances, 2 going wide and a fine save with his legs by Connor Kain prevented a third. Finished 2.0 to B.H.
Hill wanted to win much more than us today and their sheer determination won them the match. The two early goals were the key to the game and fair play to them for starting off brightly and getting them two early goals. In fairness although we came back into the game, Hill were always in control and ran out worthy winners.
We now need 10 points out of a possible 12, to prevent Hill taking our title. 3 wins and a draw will win it for us, but that now looks a very tall order as we now face 4 very tough matches. Get the 10 points and we deserve our 3rd successive title, but show the lack of fighting sprit and passion that was missing today, we wont even be runners-up.
