Parsonage 2 v 1 Amec 'A'
Echo League “Challenge Cup” Semi - Final
Played Sun 5 Feb 2006
The game started evenly for the first few minutes, but soon Parsonage were pushing forward and began to get the upper hand. Although the ball was very much in the Amec half good defending from Amec ensured Parsonage for all their attacking play never really had any clear cut opportunities, expect for a clever flick from Ryan Mallett that hit the bar.
The break through came after 10 minutes. Ross Cope picked the ball up just inside his own half and sprinted towards goal. His run took him to the edge of the box where he played in the overlapping Jack Lawerence who’s shot into the bottom corner was probably over the line before the incoming Ryan Mallett finished it off. A well wide effort and a host of corners and crosses from Parsonage were dealt with well by Amec, who themselves looked very dangerous on the counterattack. One particular tackle last ditch tackle from Ryan Grigg was crucial in stopping Amec from having a very good goal scoring opportunity.
The second half was similar to the first, with Parsonage dominating but not creating many goal scoring opportunities. The Amec keeper produced a fine save from Callum O’Sullivan, diving at his near post. Again 10 minutes into the second half Jack Lawrence’s through ball found Callum O’Sullivan who shrugged off a couple of challenges before shooting past the advancing keeper, into the net.
2.0 up game over. WRONG. The next couple of minutes were played in the middle of the park, which resulted in an Amec attack being put behind for a corner. An inch perfect cross to the back post was met with a superb header which gave the Parsonage keeper no chance. Suddenly Amec believed in themselves and it was now there turn to put pressure on the Parsonage defence. Amec almost got their equaliser in the last couple of minutes as Parsonage pushed to many players forward for a corner and Amec on the counter were denied by Conner Kain in the Parsonage goal why saved brilliantly at the feet of an Amec player. Finished 2.1
We never knocked the ball around like we sometimes can (never seem to at home anyway) but in truth were always in control until Amec pulled one back. By the time Amec did pull a goal back the game should have been all over, but our inability to get on the end of countless crosses and corners almost cost us dearly.
Amec couldn’t have complained at the 2.0 score line but after their goal they looked the better side and I left the game wondering why they only got into the game after they went two down. Not that I’m complaining! Amec can be very proud of their achievement in getting to the semi finals and we at Parsonage wish them the best of luck in gaining promotion to a higher league where they belong.
So in our 3rd season we finally made it to the final. I hope for the kids sake we go on to win it, cause they are desperate to get their hands to the only trophy they have never won. Like I have said before my aim is a 3rd league title and nothing has changed. Yes it would be nice to win the cup but lets try and win the league first and then the cup can be the icing on the cake. Good luck boys.
