Parsonage 1 v 1 UPR 'A'
Echo League: Essex
Played Sun 22 Jan 2006
I was not present for this match. As told by Michael Bearman who took over the role of Manager.
I scrappy affair ended in a 1.1 draw which did both teams no favours in their bids for Championship Glory.
UPR opened the scoring midway through the first half. A UPR player got the better of a Parsonage defender and his cross was turned in from close range. Almost immediately good work from Ross Cope resulted in him setting up Callum O’Sullivan who hit one inches over the bar from no more than 3 foot out (ball wobbled as he hit it????). As Parsonage went searching for the equaliser an in swinging corner from Jack Lawrence, which looked goal bound was helped on its way by the fist of the UPR keeper. 1.1 half time.
The second half was again quiet even. UPR had a couple of chances most noticeably a shot that Connor saved well and a Reece Lambert effort that was screwed wide when one on one with the keeper. Parsonage had 3 or 4 efforts on the UPR goal with the UPR keeper making a couple of good saves. Match finished 1-1.
It was plain to see from the outset that our right back Ryan Grigg was struggling with an injury today (picked up in Saturdays training session), which resulted in him taking no further part in the match after halftime and the resulting changes to positions didn’t help our couse. Things got even worse when Ross Cope picked up a rib injury, which saw him leave the field for a large part of the 2nd half and again further changes in positions had to follow.
We knew what to expect from UPR, i.e the long throws and long ball game and overall given the circumstances we coped reasonably well. It wasn’t a spectacle but was played in good sprit by both teams and a draw was a fair result.
