Parsonage 0 v 0 Xcel 'A'
Friendly
Played Sun 19 Feb 2006
Both teams from the outset worked hard and tried to play football the way it should be played but neither team could break the deadlock.
It was Parsonage who started the brightest and for the first ten minutes had Xcel on the back foot. Ex Lakeview keeper Joe was forced into two fine saves and a couple of last ditch clearances from the Xcel defenders (who were in fine form) prevented Parsonage from opening the scoring. The second 10 minutes were a reversal of the first 10, with Xcel pushing forward and putting pressure on the Parsonage defence. Xcel were denied the lead by the width of a post towards the end of the half.
The second half was a bit tighter than the first and was played very similar to the first, with both teams moving the ball around whenever able. Again the first 10 minutes belonged to Parsonage and the 2nd to Xcel. First Xcel flashed one just wide of Conners goal and minutes after Parsonage almost scored when Ross Cope’s shot hit the post. Finished 0.0 which was a fair result.
An extra 15 minutes was played an the end of the game, which saw Jamie Carrol open the scoring for Xcel with Parsonage replying from Jack Lawrence and Callum O’Sullivan.
Excel matched us blow for blow today and they will do very well in the Premiership next season. Xcel played four in midfield with no striker, which meant the middle of the pitch was quiet congested, which never allowed the flowing football that these to teams can produce. That said it was a good match played against two teams who’s boys all know each other very well.
