Parsonage  4   v   0  Old Bealonians

Echo League: Essex

Played Sun 16 Oct 2005

Parsonage came out firing on all cylinders and it didn’t take long for Michael Morris to put Parsonage ahead.  Minutes later Parsonage made it two after a sweet move that started deep inside the Parsonage half, which involved five different players before Jack Lawrence steered the ball home.  Michael Morris soon added a second as Parsonage upped the tempo further.  Some good goalkeeping and some great last ditch tackles from the Bealonian players prevented Parsonage adding to their tally before half time.

The second half was quiet different to the first, as Bealonians got plenty of players behind the ball with Parsonage not really having ideas of how to break down the Bealonian defence.  Fair play to Bealonians who never gave up and had a great opportunity to score through a penalty, but were denied by Conner kains fine save, which ironically was his first touch of the ball.  Parsonage were still very much on top throughout the half and Michael Morris grabbed his third to seal the game for the home team. Finished 4.0.

Our first half performance was very good today and some of the passing was a joy to watch, but we didn’t perform so well in the second half which was disappointing.  Bealonians showed good character in making life difficult for us in the second half, where other teams may have given up.

The performance of three Parsonage players today came to the attention of a watching scout from a leading premiership club, who would like to take three of our boys on a six week trail.  Although the club involved seemed very supportive of our predicament of not being able to field a team and agreed to stagger the trials it means that when the boys are trialing they will not be playing for Parsonage which inevitably will cost us matches.  If 2 or 3 sign in 6 weeks time, we won’t have a team, if 1 signs yes we can carry on but coupled with us losing players for trials our attempt at winning a third consecutive league title will be over.  I am proud that players from our team get the recognition they deserve and nothing makes me prouder that some of our boys each year better themselves and play for academies but there is a time and place for everything and professional clubs should not be allowed to take players once a season has started.

Spare a thought for Mark at Lakeview who today lost 2.0 to UPR.  Two weeks before the start of the season he had two players taken from his team by academies.  Lakeview would not have lost today if them two players were playing.  Very soon it could be us losing 2.0.

Agree ???????   Disagree?????????.  I would be interested in your opinion. Whether I know you or not, if you’re a Parent of another team, Granddad or Manager, drop me an e-mail with your views.
