Woodford Youth 1 v Parsonage Colts 2
Friendly
Played Mon 15 Aug 2005
Before the start we knew Woodford were a strong up and coming team and knew we were in for a tough game. From the outset our opponents got straight into us with a mixture of aggression and sheer determination. A midfield battle started that was to last right until the final whistle.
In the opening exchanges Parsonage had Woodford on the back foot but never really created any clear cut chances. Any opportunities on goal that we did have went wide due to Woodford quickly closing us down and narrowing the angles of the goal. Our break through came as Ryan Mallet smashed an unstoppable Free-kick into the roof of the net to give Parsonage the lead. Moments later Ross Cope hit a post from a corner (he hits more posts than scores goals) as Parsonage began to get on top. The half finished 1.0.
The second half was much the same with Woodford denying Parsonage any time on the ball and Parsonage only sometimes being allowed to produce the kind of style of football they we would have liked to have played. Woodford equalised as Harry skipped past two Parsonage players and then struck a nice shot wide of Connor and into the corner of the net. Good goal. Parsonage showed good character after Woodford equalised and there persistence paid off when Michael Morris won the ball inside the Woodford penalty area, turned and finished well. The goal turned out to be the winner.
An extra 20 minutes was played after, with Parsonage scoring another through an own goal and Woodford scoring following a nice move. Woodford were on top in this period as Parsonage seemed tired and Connor kain was forced into tipping 3 shots over his bar.
Final result 1.2 to Parsonage (2.3 if you count the extra 20 minutes at the end).
Woodford are a newly formed team who are very physical, strong and hard working. They limit the opposition any time on the ball closing players down very quickly. Woodford are a very good team who will have a very big say on who becomes next seasons winners of the Kent Division.
